Election eve
Which bit of this election campaign was supposed to inspire us? It's time for change. It's time for new government. It's time for a shift in the balance of power. It's time for real leadership; leadership that inspires, that brings people together, that has a vision for the future built on human dignity and care for our fellow travellers. A vision for Australia that puts a premium on dignity before consumerism; depth of thinking and ideas before simplistic solutions and slogans; innovation, inventiveness and free thinking over conformism; education as a path to freedom rather than just a means of becoming job ready. An Australia that cares for us all, individually and collectively. Which of the politicians vying for our votes tomorrow can give us anything like that?
I know who I won't be voting for tomorrow. What I have a bigger problem making my mind up about is who I'll be voting for.
I know who I won't be voting for tomorrow. What I have a bigger problem making my mind up about is who I'll be voting for.

Don't know who to vote for on 21 August?
Rant
Woke up this morning, can’t believe this town
It’s so shiny on the surface, and so dirty underground
You give your money to the government for hospitals and schools
But they keep it in the bank, and they dig up all the roads
Now we’ve got ourselves a railway, to keep the business going
Gotta keep the people moving, gotta keep the traffic flowing
But I’m here to tell you people, that you won’t get far
If you’re hungry or you’re bleeding, and you haven’t got a car
To drive you to the clinic, ‘cos the doctor took a break
And he’s living with the rich folk on the golf course by the lake
While you’re hangin’ onto nothin’, all the people passin’ by
And not a single one of them will look you in the eye
So you’re talking to the government, and they say ‘sorry mate’
You were born too late for the welfare state
You should go and get a job so you can look after yourself
And then you’ll have the cash to pay the doctor for your health
‘Cos your mother hit the bottle and you were no concern
To your father as he left after paying for his turn
So they wonder why you’re angry, why you don’t give a fuck
As you’re telling the police to ‘c’mon and try your luck’
While they’re standing in the street with their weapons drawn
This is the middle of Australia and they’ve pulled out all their guns
And they’re pointing them at you because you don’t fit in
You’re a poor man ‘mongst the rich, you should take it on the chin
But you have to be defiant, you can’t take it lying down
There was a time when a small man meant something in this town
So you take a step forward as they shout ‘back off!’
And the last thing that you hear is the ringing of the shots
While you feel your knees weaken, and the blackness in your head
Is the finish of this country where you were born and bred
Australia’s better off now we’re the fifty-first state
We can try all of our terrorists at Camp x-ray
We can go overseas and fight other people’s wars
While the government lies about what we’re fighting for
We can overthrow the leaders the evil axis states
And we can tell just by looking who’re the people that we hate
We’ve got people banging on about democracy
While they teach you to conform in the land of the free
We get to vote for our leaders every couple of years
And in between the vote they don’t wanna hear
But they tell you that they listen and you got a choice
But all the choices are the same, so raise up your voice
And say, ‘Fuck the vote!’

Donuts
When travelling home from interstate, don't buy donuts for the folks back home. Bad things happen.
The Lathams
Get all the music you can handle from Australia's most dysfunctional rock n roll family. Mind you don't choke on it!
Thanks Dad.
